The Ottoman Empire in the early 20th century was suffering from major economic decline and was surrounded by hostile nations wanting to conquer its land. In order to prevent the dissolution of their nation the Young Turks formed a successful coup against the government that allowed them control of the country. They then proceeded to introduce new laws and reforms that formed the Republic of Turkey and improved the lives of the Turkish people.
